In Chapter 2, Mark wants us to see Jesus’ acceptance of outcasts and his ability to redeem & restore them…and to follow Him in the pursuit to heal and forgive them. 2:1-2:12 – We Need Forgiveness More Than We Need Healing Summary: When Jesus forgave a man who came looking for healing, He revealed our need and His authority. Application: As we attempt to bring people to Jesus, we must seek to address their greatest need – their need for forgiveness. 2:13-17 – Open Your Heart and Home to Jesus Summary: As Jesus gathered disciples, He befriended sinners in home settings. Application: Acknowledging the needs of those around us, we should open our hearts and homes to serve those in close proximity to us and lead them to Jesus. 2:18-22 (2:6-7)– Jesus Doesn’t Fit in Your Box Summary: The religious leaders of the day became increasingly frustrated because Jesus didn’t serve in the way they deemed appropriate. Application: We must stop trying to fit Jesus into our religious boxes and realize that He came to do something new.
